Basic site requirements to host a GOTR team:

  • Must provide a current completed Host Site application (includes returning sites)
  • Have a dedicated Site Liaison (this can also be a coach) – see Site Liaison Job Description
  • Must hold lessons 2x per week for 10 weeks (may be non consecutive due to holidays, early release, closed, etc)
  • Provide at least 2 coaches (must have 1 Head Coach and at least 1-2 Assistant Coaches; coaches may be assigned by GOTR when possible)
  • Must provide indoor space for inclement weather/written lessons
  • Must provide suitable space for running lessons

Basic coaches’ information:

  • All coaches/volunteers must submit a completed volunteer application for their participating site via Raceplanner – coach/volunteer application links close 8/31/2017 12:00 AM

Other program information:

  • Team registrations for September participation can begin now or as agreed with program coordinator.
  • Lessons begin approximately beginning to mid September 2017 (varies by district or site)
  • End of season 5k for all teams – Saturday December 2, 2017 at Kino Stadium – 2500 E Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ 85713

Additional program information: Must have a minimum of 8 girls to start a team, maximum of 15 girls per team.

  • Participants and their guardians should know in advance that they cannot substitute another activity or program (such as school play, tutoring, other sports program) for 1 day of Girls on the Run lessons. Academics are priority and we encourage your students to focus on their grades prior to GOTR. We understand that absences will happen however if your student knows in advance that they can only attend 1x per week she should not register for the program. Attendance policies are enforced.
  • Participant recruitment flyers, GOTR brochures and other informational materials can be provided to Site Liaison.

Cost is $75 per girl, per season; Scholarships provided upon request via Raceplanner Application. Participant registration links and materials will be provided to confirmed participating sites.

GOTR & PAWS ON THE RUN SPRING 5K!

GOTR & PAWS ON THE RUN SPRING 5K!

The GOTR Spring 5k is just around the corner and we have joined forces with PACC (Pima Animal Care Center) for a “Paws on the Run 5K”!!! The top ten donors will get to run with a PACC dog.
If you can’t run with a dog, you can also register for the SARs Fit Kidz 1 Mile Fun Run. Both runs are untimed and non-competitive but promise to be TONS OF FUN!!

When: Saturday, April 8, 2017

Where: Christopher Columbus Park – 4600 S. Silverbell Road, Tucson AZ, 85745

Girls on the Run of Tucson will be hosting 3 run events on Saturday, April 8th and your help is needed for all 3 events.  Starting with the PACC (Pima Animal Care Center) “Paws on the Run 5k” dog run at 7:30AM, followed by the GOTR 5k at 8:30AM and finishing with the SAR Fit Kidz 1 Miler Fun Run at 9:30AM, this morning promises to be tons of fun for all!!

Additionally, FREE pet adoption will be offered to all runners and volunteers!

Fall 2016 End of Season 5K.

The big day is approaching, Saturday October 29th! The TMC Get Moving Tucson 5k Run benefiting GOTR of Tucson Presented by UnitedHealthcare.

On this day there will be many events going on including the GOTR 5k, families are encouraged to participate in pre and post GOTR 5k events.

Checkin for the GOTR girls, families and run buddies will begin at 7am. It is advised to arrive decently early before the race time at 8:30am. In arriving early girls will be able to participate in many fun booths (happy hair, cheer gear, poster making, finish line food).

The GOTR of Tucson Fall season is well under way and we are looking forward to cooler weather! And what comes with cooler weather???? The Colossal Vail 50/50!!

The event on Saturday, November 12th 2016 is for everyone and comes exactly 2 weeks after the GOTR Fall 5k.  What a perfect way to keep your exercise regimen going for you and your family.

Check out the childrens event for all kids ages 7-12, the race, post-race activities and goodies and rewards are FREE for all run participants!!

GOTR FALL 2015 5K NEWS & EVENT UPDATES!!!

The Fall 2015 Tucson Marathon Family Fitness Fest benefiting Girls on the Run of Tucson 5k is almost here!!  Check here for event information, volunteer opportunities, race day details and updates on what to expect on race day!

Fall 5k  5K GIRL  5k volunteers

CALLING ALL RUN BUDDIES! – GOTR is in need of Run Buddies that are able to run, hop, skip, jump and basically guide and accompany a 3rd – 8th grade Girl on the Run through the 5K run course.  Girls come in all levels of running ability and her Run Buddy should keep pace (fast or slow) and encourage her through the finish line.  All Run Buddy volunteers must complete and pass a background check as part of the volunteer registration.  All background check fees are covered by Girls on the Run of Tucson.  There is no fee to register & you must be at least 18 years old. Each approved Run Buddy will get a #2 bib on event morning, a color coordinated bandanna to match the GOTR tee (burgundy), 5k finisher medal and free post run food. CALLING ALL 5K VOLUNTEERS! – As girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5K day, they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine!!  ALL volunteer 5k categories are now open from Setup, to Run Buddies, to handing out 5k medals at the finish line.  If you have never volunteered for a GOTR 5k, be prepared to have fun and be in awe of what over 300 3rd – 8th grade girls and their coaches have accomplished during their 10 weeks of training.

Girls on the Run of Tucson needs you!

Coaches are dynamic role models dedicated to empowering girls to become healthy and confident young women.

Do you want to make a difference and encourage girls to realize their full potential?

Learn about the GOTR mission and how you can help to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of healthy living and self-respect!

ALL COACHES

  • Must attend one day training session on August 29, 2015.
  • Must attend the end of season 5k event on December 5, 2015.
  • Must submit to background check.

Girls on the Run coaches do not need to be elite runners.   As long as you live a healthy lifestyle and are committed to improving the lives of girls, you can serve as a coach.  GOTR coaches empower girls by encouraging positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

HEAD COACHES

  • Must be female and at least 21 years of age.
  • Must commit to 7-10 hours per week for 10 weeks including; two 1 ½ hour lessons weekly plus planning time.
  • Complete First Aid/CPR certification – provided by GOTR
  • Prepare, organize, and supervise two weekly lessons to implement the Girls on the Run curriculum.
  • Lead the program participants through each lesson.
  • Interact with parents of program participants.

ASSISTANT COACHES

(This is a perfect opportunity for individuals who can’t make the more rigorous commitment of being a head coach)

  • May be male or female and at least 18 years of age.
  • Must commit to 3-5 hours per week for 10 weeks; including two 1 ½ hour lessons weekly.
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of the Girls on the Run curriculum.
  • Attend coaches meetings in absence of head coach.

LESSONS WILL BEGIN THE FIRST WEEK TO MID SEPTEMBER (varies by site) AND RUN THROUGH DECEMBER 5, 2015
