I’d like to introduce you to Haile Thomas. Haile is the founder of the HEAL Festival (Healthy Eating Active Lifestyle), the Healthy Girls Adventures Club, and is one of only 20 (nationally) Youth Advisory Board members for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

Haile is 11 years old. You can almost forget that when talking with this poised young woman.

Haile’s cause and passion is fighting childhood obesity by sharing knowledge and leading by example. As a Youth Advisory Board member for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, her service-learning projects revolve around teaching and motivating other young people to practice and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Her role includes being a spokesperson, on the local and national level, in the fight against the epidemic of childhood obesity.

Haile is collaborating with well-known chefs to create a cookbook with kids menus, and showing kids how to cook delicious and healthy food with her little sister via a video channel on YouTube – azkidscancook.  Haile’s passion has taken her to the White House where she met with the First Lady. Pretty heady stuff for a 5th grader. Kudos to Haile for her efforts. I’m sure she will make a difference.

Haile’s HEAL Festival is at the Diamond Children’s Center on April 21, Global Youth Service Day, and she needs volunteers, especially young people. The Festival will highlight healthy lifestyles for young people.
