Girls on the Run of Tucson needs you!

Coaches are dynamic role models dedicated to empowering girls to become healthy and confident young women.

Do you want to make a difference and encourage girls to realize their full potential?

Learn about the GOTR mission and how you can help to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of healthy living and self-respect!

ALL COACHES

New this season: Due to the implementation of the new Girls on the Run National Coaches Training, all coaches (new and returning) must attend an In-Person training and will be assigned pre-training online modules.

All new and returning coaches must submit a completed volunteer application via Raceplanner

All coaches must attend 1 mandatory training

  1. Option 1: Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 4:30-8:30PM
  2. Option 2: Saturday September 8, 2018 from 8:00AM – 12:00PM
  • FREE CPR* training will be offered to Head Coaches (first) and Assistant Coaches as space permits on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 4:30PM – 8:00PM  *Class is now full, voucher will be provided for Save-A-Life Foundation
  • Must attend the end of season 5k event on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Kino Sports Stadium
  • All coaches must submit at GOTR background check
  • All training will take place at Tucson Medical Center, 5301 E. Grant Road, Tucson AZ 85712

Girls on the Run coaches do not need to be elite runners.   As long as you live a healthy lifestyle and are committed to improving the lives of girls, you can serve as a coach.  GOTR coaches empower girls by encouraging positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

HEAD COACHES

  • Must be female and at least 21 years of age.
  • Must commit to 7-10 hours per week for 10 weeks including; two 1 ½ hour lessons weekly plus planning time.
  • Complete First Aid/CPR certification – provided by GOTR
  • Prepare, organize, and supervise two weekly lessons to implement the Girls on the Run curriculum.
  • Lead the program participants through each lesson.
  • Interact with parents of program participants.

ASSISTANT COACHES

(This is a perfect opportunity for individuals who can’t make the more rigorous commitment of being a head coach)

  • May be male or female and at least 18 years of age.
  • Must commit to 3-5 hours per week for 10 weeks; including two 1 ½ hour lessons weekly.
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of the Girls on the Run curriculum.
  • Attend coaches meetings in absence of head coach.

LESSONS WILL BEGIN APPROXIMATELY 2ND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER (varies by site) AND RUN THROUGH DECEMBER 2018

Basic site requirements to host a GOTR team:

  • Must provide a current completed Host Site application (includes returning sites)
  • Have a dedicated Site Liaison (this can also be a coach) – see Site Liaison Job Description
  • Must hold lessons 2x per week for 10 weeks (may be non consecutive due to holidays, early release, closed, etc)
  • Provide at least 2 coaches (must have 1 Head Coach and at least 1-2 Assistant Coaches; coaches may be assigned by GOTR when possible)
  • Must provide indoor space for inclement weather/written lessons
  • Must provide suitable space for running lessons

Basic coaches’ information:

Additional program information: Must have a minimum of 8 girls to start a team, maximum of 15 girls per team.

  • Participants and their guardians should know in advance that they cannot substitute another activity or program (such as school play, tutoring, other sports program) for 1 day of Girls on the Run lessons. Academics are priority and we encourage your students to focus on their grades prior to GOTR. We understand that absences will happen however if your student knows in advance that they can only attend 1x per week she should not register for the program. Attendance policies are enforced.
  • Participant recruitment flyers, GOTR brochures and other informational materials can be provided to Site Liaison.

Cost is $75 per girl, per season; Scholarships provided upon request via Raceplanner Application. Participant registration links and materials will be provided to confirmed participating sites.

Volunteer ImageThe Girls on the Run of Tucson 5k is just around the corner and as girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5K day, they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine!

What: GOTR Spring 2018 5k

When: Saturday, April 14, 2018

Girls on the Run of Tucson is hosting the Spring 2018 End of Season 5k Celebration on Saturday, April 14th and your help and support is needed!  The GOTR 5k run is at 8:00AM but the activities and fun begins by 7:00AM (or earlier) as over 1000 runners will arrive to Check In, get their hair “happied”, visit poster making stations, grab Cheer Gear and visit the fun and supporting vendors who help make the 5k a memorable event!

  • Additional CPR training 4pm-8:30pm on Friday, January 5, 2018 (CPR training only required for Head Coaches; optional for Assistant Coaches)

GOTR & PAWS ON THE RUN SPRING 5K!

GOTR & PAWS ON THE RUN SPRING 5K!

The GOTR Spring 5k is just around the corner and we have joined forces with PACC (Pima Animal Care Center) for a “Paws on the Run 5K”!!! The top ten donors will get to run with a PACC dog.
If you can’t run with a dog, you can also register for the SARs Fit Kidz 1 Mile Fun Run. Both runs are untimed and non-competitive but promise to be TONS OF FUN!!

When: Saturday, April 8, 2017

Where: Christopher Columbus Park – 4600 S. Silverbell Road, Tucson AZ, 85745

Packet Pickup: 6:30 am.

Paws on the Run 5k: 7:30 am

GOTR 5k: 8:30 am – Sorry, this event is only open to program participants

SARs Fit Kidz 1 miler: 9:30 am – Kids will receive a t-shirt, bib and finisher ribbon
